Uncorrected Hyperopia and Preschool Early Literacy

Preschool Early Literacy

At Eyes For Wellness in Indianapolis, IN, we understand the eyes and how they work. Weak eyes are problem eyes that need the care of a professional and experienced optometrist. We thrive are here to help each of our patients achieve their vision health goals. We can use eye exams to detect eye problems before they start impacting your life or that of your child.

As the parent, guardian, or caregiver of young children, the first eye exam before attending school is important. It is the beginning of good grades in school. It might be surprising to know that many children have poor grades due to vision problems. One of these problems is hyperopia or farsightedness. Students sitting further from the learning board cannot see their lessons clearly from their seats, causing some students to become uninterested in learning. The habits of learning can start forming early in life.

How Does an Optometrist Treat Farsightedness?

If, after testing, that farsightedness is confirmed, we may prescribe either corrective contact lenses or glasses. However, early literacy preschoolers are not old enough to understand how to use or wear contacts. For this reason, corrective eyeglasses would be more beneficial.

What Happens When Hyperopia is Left Uncorrected?

If farsightedness is left uncorrected, it could further damage the learning patterns of young children. Students are known to fail tests and do poorly in reading, writing, and math because of vision problems. Vision is a part of everyday life. Without good vision, the way the world is seen may not be clear. This can distort the world of young and upcoming scholars.
